The Community Identifiers for Mt. Greenwood included banners and Gateway trees. The design team referred to them as “cheese trees”. Needless to say, they were deemed too dangerous and didn’t get fabricated:(
The inspiration for the Mt. Greenwood Community Identifiers came from the Mt. Greenwood Park Playground.
The Chicago Park District and Mount Greenwood Advisory Council worked with elected officials to raise $1.2 million for a fullyaccessible soft surface playground dedicated in 2008. The playground includes interactive art components which were designed by local artists through the Chicago Public Art Group.
The hopping bunny, sun and tree are inspired by mosaics found in the playground.
